Professor Cheryl de la Rey has approved this drive as it is a natural extension to the UP Wellness movement. It now forms the activity leg of UP Wellness, with the other two being Nutrition and Stress Management.
The Section Sports Medicine in collaboration with the Institute for Sports Research launched the Fitness Friday drive earlier this year with weekly publications in Campus News. These Fitness Friday articles cover various topics pertaining to health and exercise such as , “How to get started”, “Exercising on a budget”, “Why Pilates”, “Crash diets”, “A healthy diet on a budget”, etc.
The next phase of the campaign was rolled out when our Fitness Friday golf- and T-shirts were worn at the inauguration of the Faculty of Medicine’s new sports facilities on Spring Day. The extent in which this faculty supported this campaign was evident when it bought shirts for each of their staff members and students.
As a continuation of our awareness campaign, we will launch the lunch-time activity drive on the Hatfield campus with a few words from Professor De la Rey.
When: Friday 5 October
Time: 12:00-13:00.
The event will begin on the lawn in front of the Aula from where we will walk (or jog) the new trail on the campus. The remainder of this year is focused on creating awareness for the Fitness Friday Campaign.
From next year we plan to roll out activities at each campus every Friday for staff and students alike.
In support of the Fitness Friday campaign, Prof Cheryl de la Rey has approved that Fitness Friday branded golf-shirts be worn by staff and students every Friday(
