10 Steps to prepare for your first year in House Mags

Welcome to the beginning of the most exciting, PINK adventure of your life. We are very excited to take this journey with you and to share in the adventures that lie ahead. To be a Spikkel is truly an honour and we hope you are excited to become a part of the PINK PALACE.

Below are 10 steps to follow to prepare for your stay in House Mags

Step 1: Download and read your 2026 Spikkel book

This is a very special book for first year students. Your Spikkel book has all the information you will need before moving into House Mags. We recommend that you study the book from cover to cover, as it will help you to prepare for next year. Pay special attention to the checklist at the end of the book to ensure you have all the things you need before you move into House Mags. Happy reading!

Step 2: Join the 2026 First Year Whatsapp group
Please join the 2026 First Year Whatsapp group by clicking on this whatsapp link:

If you are unable to join the whatsapp group via the link, please send a whatsapp to your First Year Guardian (Emma at 060 917 0434) and she will add you to the whatsapp group. The purpose of the Whatsapp group is to share important information in a quick and easy way with the group

Step 3: Complete your online Spikkel survey
Please click on the Spikkel questionnaire link and complete the online questionnaire as soon as possible, but not later than 9 January 2026. This questionnaire allows us to get to know you better. Please answer all the questions as honestly as possible since we also use the answers to match room mates. Talking about room mates, please note that House Mags has very few single rooms available for first year students, so you will most likely be assigned to a double room.

Step 4: Download and complete your Clothing order form
The clothing form gives you the opportunity to indicate which compulsory clothing you would like to purchase for next year. Please bring the completed form with when you move into the residence in 2026. Besides ordering your residence clothing, you also need to bring black long pants from home. Mags ladies wear their residence clothing on a weekly basis. Here is the link to the Excel sheet (check your download folder for the file): Clothing order form (the file will open as an Excel file)

Step 5: Take (and e-mail) a head-and-shoulder colour picture of yourself
Please e-mail a colour head-and-shoulders picture of yourself to the First Year Guardian at [email protected] as soon as possible, but not later than 9 January 2026. Ideally this should be a recent picture (you can take a selfie) of you in everyday life, and not you dressed up at a special event such as a matric farewell or wedding.

Step 6: Download the 2026 UP calendar
Feel free to download the University of Pretoria calendar to assist you in planning for the upcoming year. Herewith the link to the calendar: 2026 UP calendar

Step 7: Download the parent/s letter and give it to your parents
Please download the parents letter and give it to your parents to read. This will provide them with important information about the day you have to move into House Mags. Herewith the link to the parent letter: Parent letter

Step 8: Join the House Mags Facebook and Instagram pages
Facebook: House Mags
Instagram: @housemags

Step 9: Checklist
Please check that you have all the items on the checklist (which you will find at the back of the Spikkel book - refer to step 1 for the spikkel book). This checklist will help you get everything together before you move into House Mags.

Step 10: Be ready to move into House Mags on 24 & 25 January 2026
Ensure that you are prepared to move into the House Mags residence from 24 January 2026. You have to be settled into your room by 25 January 2026 at 14:30 when our Welcome Week programme starts. Bring your beautiful self and lots of energy!

We can’t wait to meet our new Spikkels (Spikkels is our special name for our 1st year students)!
Prepare for the best time of your life!
Good luck with your exam and happy packing!
