Prof Johann Meylahn of the Department of Practical Theology was granted the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin, Germany.

Prof Meylahn left for Germany on 1 October 2014. For the next three years, he will be researching the theme “Towards a Practical Postfoundational Theology as Public Theology in response to the challenges of lived religion in contemporary Southern Africa” as part of the fellowship.

The Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers is granted to researchers from abroad with above average qualifications, a doctoral degree, an own research profile and a record of several years of independent academic work. The fellowship allows researchers to carry out long-term research in Germany. It is flexible and can be divided up into as many as three stays within three years.

Scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines apply for the fellowship, and the Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 500 Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers annually.

To date Prof Meylahn has published four books, three chapters in books and 23 articles in scholarly journals.
