Posted on July 21, 2010

Prof. Wepener attended school in George in the Southern Cape. After school he went to the army for a brief period of time after which he studied at the University of Stellenbosch and later at the Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

He worked at different levels in the church including being involved in continued training and research known as Buvton. He also served at several congregations in the Dutch Reformed Church and was part time lecturer at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein for the last three years.

His academic interests are liturgical studies with a focus on the role rituals play in the church and community.

Prof. Wepener is married to Clara and together they have three children, Aloise (7), Adriana (5) and Casper (2).

He says that he sees it as a great privilege to be able to lecture at the University of Pretoria and he looks forward to being involved in the training of students in the field of liturgy and preaching.

We wish prof. Wepener a long and fruitful career at the University of Pretoria.
