Members of our Faculty have featured across a variety of platforms this week. In the media: 

 

 • Molly Brown (English) and Tharina Guse (Psychology) appeared in the webinar “Individuals, Communities and Wellbeing” which was part of the International Forum 2020: Wellbeing and Subjectivities across the Global Southhosted by the University of Tuebingen in Germany.

 • Ndukuyakhe Ndlovu (Archaeology & Anthropology) contributed to the Wenner-Gren blog with a commentary piece titled “COVID-19 and the “New World” Order

 • David Medalie (English & Unit for Creative Writing) was also in digital discussion with Fiona Zerbst at the launch of her new poetry collection In Praise of Hotel Rooms. Dr Zerbst is a highly respected South African poet and completed her PhD in our Unit for Creative Writing. 

 • Michael Barrett (School of the Arts) and the Tuks Camerata Choir partnered with Shenandoah University to premiere a virtual performance of ‘We Will Rise

 • Alf Nilsen (Sociology) was interviewed about his book “Adivasis and the State” with Koral Sengupta as part of the Tell Me Your Story initiative

 • Debjyoti Ghosh (Sociology) published the review “Living on in Death - a review of the short documentary, ‘Marielle’s Legacy Will Not Die’ by Leonard Cortana

 • Tharina Guse (Psychology) published “How hope can help us move forward” on the UP Well-Being Blog

 • Karen Leigh Harris & Glen Ncube (Historical & Heritage Studies) featured on Aubrey Masango’s Talk at Night on 702 Radio to continue the discussion on the Mfecane-Difaqane

 • Dominique Niemand's article "Woza Africa! UP School of the Arts hosts the World Congress of Music Therapy" was published on the UP Website 

 • Heather Thuynsma & Francois Gilles de Pelichy’s (Political Sciences) article “Trust in political parties is being tested as COVID-19 infection rates surge” featured in the Tukkievaria

 • UP Archives has extended their #UPStaySafe competition to capture life during the lockdown to 22 July 2020

 • Bibi Burger (Afrikaans) published the article “Apartheid Colonialism, Gendered Crime, and the Domestic Gothic in Mary Watson’s The Cutting Room” in the journal Current Writing

 • Christopher Changwe Nshimbi (Political Sciences & GOVINN) published the article “African Union and European Union Politics: The Veiled Account of Longstanding Interregional Relations” in the Oxford Research Encyclopaedia

 • Leon Mwamba Tshimpaka (GOVINN) published a chapter on “Intercontinental Citizenship: Europe-based Congolese Migrants and Their Influence on Homeland Governance During 2011 DRC Electoral Crisis” in the book Migration Conundrums, Regional Integration and Development edited by Inocent Moyo, Christopher Changwe Nshimbi and Jussi P Laine

 • Stephen Symons’ (Historical & Heritage Studies) article ‘‘Casting Shadows’: Militarised boyhoods in apartheid South Africa during the 1980s” was published in Childhood

 • Michael Rainsborough (Political Sciences) and Vanessa Ugolini published the article “Shadowing ‘the exceptional’ behind the ‘ordinary’: mapping a network of intelligence laundering” in Intelligence and National Security

 • Wesley Mwatwara (Historical & Heritage Studies) publish "The logic of Renamo civil war: Trans-border communities and Renamo incursions in eastern Zimbabwe, 1980s-1992” in Southern Journal of Contemporary History, 45 (1) July 2020

 

I would also like to draw your attention to an event that the Javett UP will host. It is an online event with Belgian-based researcher and art practitioner Gabi Ngcobo on Curation, Museum, and Art: Art of Monstrous Men on 14 August 2020 at 11:00.
