As we head towards the end of the semester, I am very happy to see that the Faculty has maintained its healthy media profile! 

Here is our latest list of media highlights: 

• Nadia Kamies’ (History & Heritage Studies) articles “Why the 1972 student uprising resonates today: Youth of today emulate their predecessors and discover their mission to improve their own lives, achieve a better society, and build a better world” appeared in the Tukkievaria, “Is COVID -19 our chance to address the past and build better future?” in The Sowetan, and “Why 1976 students’ uprising still resonates” in the Cape Argus
• Reineth Prinsloo’s (Social Work & Criminology) article on “Rise in dumped babies” was published in The Star, “The tragic case of Baby Ivy” appeared in the Cape Argus, “Abandoned babies cry out as an act of despair by the mothers” featured in The Sowetan and she was interviewed on RSG
• Karen Harris and UP Campus Tours featured on the UP Website, Facebook and Twitter platforms with “UP Campus Tours goes digital with interactive, customised virtual tours” 
• Priscilla Gutura (Social Work & Criminology) was profiled in the Tukkievaria and contributed to the article “Multi-sectoral approach to gender-based violence” published on IOL.co.za
• Mpho Tshivhase (Philosophy) also featured in the Tukkievaria in an article “Failure and humility – not power and authority – are the best teachers”
• Maggi Loubser’s (Tangible Heritage Conservation Programme) new book featured in the article “UP academic’s book helps students reveal what lies beneath the surface of artworks and heritage materials” on the UP website
• “Tuks Camerata (School of the Arts) joined 20 choirs around the world to heal the earth through song” was showcased on the UP website and you can watch the production here
• Berendien Lubbe’s (History & Heritage Studies) SUCSESS project was profiled on the UP website in the article “UP academics participate in SUCSESS project aimed at reducing youth unemployment”
• Chris Isike (Political Sciences) appeared on SAFm to discuss Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s readiness to intervene in Libya
• Abdi Samatar’s (Political Sciences) article on “US inequality mirrors the situation brewing in South Africa” appeared in the Daily Maverick
• Siona O’Connell (School of the Arts) participated in an Instagram chat with the Cape Town Museum of Childhood reflecting on forced removals in Cape Town and the story of the Wynberg 7
• Our ESI platform has posted the second episode of the Harry Garuba Podcast Series featuring Anthony Bogues discussing the topic “How (and why) to think radically”
