Dear Humanities Colleagues

 

A number of our colleagues have appeared across a variety of platforms this past week! Here is our latest list of media highlights: 

 • Prof Tawana Kupe’s article “Ability of youth to adapt to and adopt new tech is key to addressing unemployment” featured in The Daily Maverick. Prof Kupe was also elected to serve on the International Council of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR)

 • Tim Forssman and his colleagues Matt Caruana and Matt Lotter have posted a new episode of their Bones and Stones series titled “Staying connected through heritage

 • Alf Nilsen participated in a webinar on the “Possibilities of the global restructuring of environmental policy frame in the times of COVID-19” and was interviewed on SAFM on “India reports a record increase of COVID-19 cases for the seventh day in a row

 • Christiaan Bezuidenhout appeared in a long interview on RSG Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4 and Part 5 and on Smile FM about policing and crime during the COVID-19 era

 • Ahmed Riaz Mohamed’s article on “Supporting parenting is integral to the optimal development and wellbeing of children” was published on the Faculty’s website and Facebook page and on the ESI website.

 • Antoinette Lombard’s Stals Prize for Social Work was celebrated in the Beeld “Tuks prof wen Stalsprys vir maatskaplike werk

 • UP Archives launched the #UPStaySafe competition to capture life during the lockdown – the competition runs from 22 May – 22 June 2020

I would also like to draw your attention to some publications members of our Faculty have been involved in:

 

 • Maggi Loubser from the Tangible Heritage Conservation Programme co-authored the book “Handheld XRF in Cultural Heritage: A Practical Workbook for Conservators” with Aniko Bezur, Lynn Lee and Karen Trentelman. The publication was a collaborative venture with the Getty Conservation Institute and the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage at Yale University

 • The Department of Afrikaans has published Tydskrif vir Letterkunde Vol 57 No 1 (2020) themed “Literary provocations: Nuruddin Farah five decades on” and guest edited by F. Fiona Moolla

 • The Department of Political Sciences published the Strategic Review for Southern Africa Vol 42 No 1 (2020)

 • Hester du Plessis co-authored the report “The Evolving Science Advisory Landscape in Africa” in conjunction with the Nigerian Academy of Science, the International Network for Government Science Advice, IDRC/CRDI and the Canadian government
