Research outputs in books and conference proceedings

Posted on June 04, 2009

I received the attached two lists (booksconference proceedings) from the research office which were used for the calculations. The conference proceedings listed under the Dept of Eng are actually from the Dept of Computer Science, and will therefore not be used in our calculations. The work of Van Waveren listed under Psychology is actually from Engineering and Technology and will also not be used in our calculations.

Books receive 5 units, and an editor of a book receives 1 unit. Conference proceedings also earn 1 unit per title. If there are 5 authors for one title, each author gets .2 of a unit. Based on these principles, I made the following calculations:

Books
Wolff receives 5 units
Van Onselen receives 5 units
Grobler receives 1 unit

Conference proceedings/Chapters in books
Visual Arts 1 unit
Sociology .5 of a unit
Psychology: for "Possible interaction...." .5 for each author = 1 unit
Psychology: for "Cybernetic Symphony..." .5 for one author = .5 of a unit
Psychology: for "Indigenous psychology...." .2 for each author = 1 unit

TOTAL: 15 units.
We received R179 240 for the faculty, which means that the value of each unit is R11 949-33.

Please check the attached lists, and inform me why I should not make the payments accordingly.
Please note that the DoE does not give us feedback on our submissions. I did query the correctness of the attached lists, and I was informed that these lists are indeed correct. If you have a query about your book or chapter which is not mentioned in these lists, please contact Margot Gore (Division of Research Report: 012-420 3579). Psychology must please confirm to me that all the names of people listed under their dept are indeed members of their dept. You have time till Friday 12 June for corrections.
