Debate between American scholars and New Reformers: 12 May

Posted on April 28, 2010

Venue: Musaion
Date: 12 May
Time: 19:00 (R20 entrance fee at the door)

Sakkie Spangenberg and Hansie Wolmarans (New Reformers Network)
vs
William Lane Craig (Biola University, California) and Michael Licona (Southern Baptist Convention)

It would appear that Truth has never been in such high demand, yet in such short supply as in these demanding postmodern times. This is especially true of Biblical truth: it is an open question as to whether the Christian narrative can be reconciled with the modern worldview. Nowhere does this question become more controversial than in discussions on the nature of Christ’s resurrection. The topic is not limited to theology, but pertains to important issues in philosophy, history, hermeneutics, and even the natural sciences. The New Reformers (no strangers to controversy) take a more worldly postmodern view on the Christian narrative, and have published extensively on the historical Jesus. Dr Craig is a prominent Christian apologist and has debated prominent atheists like Christopher Hitchens, (see link to debate trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71W32ayvm_0), Daniel Dennett and Victor Stenger. Dr Licona is a Apologetics coordinator at the North American Mission Board. He holds a doctorate in Theology from the University of Pretoria, and an M.A. in Religious Studies from Liberty University.
