Philosophy Colloquium:11 May

Posted on April 29, 2010

Date: Tuesday, 11 May
Time: 17:30
Venue: HSB 4-1

It is hard to think of any topic more controversial than the conflicts between religion and science, and how the two fields relate to the age-old question of Truth. This is especially true since the publication of books like The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, and Daniel Dennett’s Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon. Questions to be addressed include: can the existence of God be proved, or disproved, for that matter? How relevant are the classic arguments, such as the Kalâm cosmological argument? Is materialism the most defensible philosophical position these days? Is atheism as philosophically tenable as it seems? What are memes exactly, and do they hold all the answers?
