Dear Colleagues,

Attached, please find a letter (with an addendum) from Prof. S. Vil-Nkomo, the Executive Director responsible for Community Engagement, encouraging academic staff to participate in an HSRC research project that is being piloted at four Universities around the country of which we are fortunate to be a part. The information gathered will be of great use to the University of Pretoria as we contemplate community engagement on our own campus and prepare for the development of a new strategic plan for the University for 2012.

Academic staff in your faculty will be contacted shortly by the HSRC to participate in a telephonic interview.

Abstract:
I would like to encourage you to participate in an upcoming syrvey of community engagement conducted by the Human Science Research Council (HSRC). The project aims to map the ways in which academics extend their knowledge through research teaching or service to the direct benefit of external social partners.

The research is part funded by the Department of Science and Technology, and part funded by the National Research Foundation to inform their new programme on university-community engagement.

We are mindful of the demands on your time, but your participation in the survey will ultimately help inform the national funding framework for the years to come.
