Interactive teaching for large groups

Message from Prof  Wendy Kilfoil:

Dear Colleagues

We are using the Elluminate synchronous software under a licence which limits the number of simultaneous users to 50. Some of your lecturers have probably enrolled. However, many more of your lecturers might be interested in what Professor Mazur does at Harvard with classes of about 250 students in a Physics course that is pre-med, pre-engineering, etc. It doesn't matter what subject a person teaches, as he is discussing a pedagogical approach not dealing with subject content. We shall be archiving the Elluminate sessions and putting them up on our website for large class resources.

However, in the meantime, you might like to view a one hour twenty minute video on how he gradually moved to the use of interactive teaching (http:/languagelab.up.ac.za/videos/lecturers/) or you might like to read his paper on Peer Instruction and Just-in-Time-Teaching (http:/homepage.mac.com/eric_mazur/Sites/workshop/JiTT%20&%20PI.pdf ).
