Posted on November 02, 2010

The University of Michigan is currently highlighting the following areas:
- African Heritage: research on how cultural assets in Africa are historicized, authenticated, accessed and circulated
- African Social Research Initiative: Quantitative social scientific research on income dynamics, urbanisation, gender, governance, demographics, public health and environmental change
- STEM-Africa: research in the domains of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Although the deadline for applications is 1 December, the Institutional Nominations Committee would have to review the nominations before sending it to Michigan. Our Faculty closing date for nominations is therefore 15 November. All nominations should be sent to me.

The following documents should be included for nomination:

- A letter of support from HOD, Chair, Dean. The letter should:
- confirm the institution's commitment to continue to pay the scholar's academic salary while on leave at Michigan
- describe the candidate's strengths and merits
- explain how this candidate's Michigan residency contributes to the central needs of the university
- Completed application form
- A curriculum vitae
- A scholarly program proposal not to exceed five double-spaced pages

Applicants will have a greater chance of success if their scholarly work represents areas of special need and/or capacity building for their home institutions, and represents scholarly areas in which the University of Michigan is particularly able to provide mentorship and collaborative engagement.
