This program aims at strengthening the relations between South Africa and Algeria to pave the way for long-term scientific cooperation. We are pleased to announce the joint call for research project proposals between South African and Algerian scientists / researchers, and invite scientists / researchers in these respective countries wishing to participate, to submit their proposals.
Joint research project proposals shall be submitted to the relevant authorities in both countries for evaluation (the DGRSDT in Algeria and the National Research Foundation in South Africa).
Evaluation will be done according to the following criteria:
• Scientific and technical merit;
• Impact on bilateral science and technology relations;
• Significance for both countries;
• Potential for creating research;
• Quality and clarity of project presentation;
• Methodology; and
• Suitability and feasibility
• Capacity Development/Student training
For the purposes of this call,
research projects falling within the following areas/disciplines will be considered:
• Laser technology
• Spatial sciences and technologies
• Nanotechnologies
• Material sciences & Nanotechnology
• Information and communication technologies
• Indigenous Knowledge Systems (Medicinal plants)
• Advanced Medical Science
• Applied Human & Social Sciences
Successful projects will be funded up to a maximum amount of R500,000.00 over two years. Researchers should therefore note that two separate budgets to the maximum of R250,000.00 (per year) would be required from each side or the sum from each respective PI should not exceed R500,000.00. Researchers should take note that they will be responsible for their own international travel, subsistence and accommodation.
