It is worth reading the entire journal but I'd like to draw your attention to Elizabeth de Kadt's article on pages 63-6 on 'Making SA higher education work starting at the beginning'. It describes UJ's first year experience strategy which parallels the initiatives put in place at UP over the years and as a result of the work of Professor Ogude's student success steering committee last year. It provides an interesting benchmark for us on our progress with our student academic development and excellence model.
