Last Saturday, the 2nd year ACE students assembled to attend their second contact session of the semester. The group was large, with 100 students in attendance. Joining the group was Tshidi Chokoe, an official from the Gauteng Department of Education. The session on Saturday focused on the teachers’ professional development, such as reflecting and evaluating their skills within the classroom context as well as how to include multicultural education into lesson preparation plans. During the session, the group discussed a multitude of topics including the impact of HIV/AIDS within the educational system, which prompted debates and suggestions for providing counseling to teachers whose students are affected with the virus. The next contact session will be held on the 16th of April, to provide feedback on the students’ assignments and for final exam preparation.
