The focus of the 48 (1) issue is Nigerian literature. The issue aims to explore the central aspects of Nigerian literature by making a representative collection of texts available to the reader. The themes within these texts often illustrate, amongst others, the corruption of politics, struggle for independence and the brutality of the civil war. It becomes clear that these and many others social and political events have shaped not only the Nigerian people, but also their literature. Nigeria’s rich heritage as well as the beliefs and rituals of the people are also explored.
This issue not only explores both Nigerian poetry and prose, but various articles also honour famous Nigerian writers such as: Tanure Ojaide and Chimamanda Adichie. Some of the writers and academicians who contributed to this issue are: Isidore Diala, Charles E. Nnolim, Moses Tsenongu and Onyemaechi Udumukwu.
