Two fellowships, each valued at R144 000 per year (tax-free living allowance), will be awarded for a period of 2 years. In addition to the monthly stipend, the fellowships will cover the cost of medical aid insurance and travel to South Africa (for successful candidates who are from outside South Africa). The renewal of the award for the second year of the fellowship will be made conditional on the fulfilment of satisfactory performance targets (whose primary focus will be on research productivity) that will be negotiated between the fellow and his/her host.

Procedure for submitting application

Prospective candidates must have completed their doctoral studies within the past five years.

A full application will consist of:

• a curriculum vitae (which must include the contact details of the applicant, especially an email address) an outline of a research proposal
• a motivation from an academic staff member of the University wishing to host the applicant, which should include reference to projected outputs
• two referees' reports
• a statement of support from the Head of School where the prospective candidate will be based

This fellowship cannot be held concurrently with another postdoctoral fellowship award.
