The A.W Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in Humanities: closing 30 Sept

Conditions of Award
The Fellowship are open to candidates in the Social Sciences, Humanities and the Performing and Creative Arts who have obtained their PhD degrees within five years of the current year, and who wish to carry out research in their specific discipline. Applications from PhD graduates of UCT are welcome. Candidates may not be registered for any degree at the time of taking up the Fellowship. Individuals who have previously held full-time academic posts are ineligible to apply.

Fellowships are normally tenable for one year. However, renewal for a second year of the Fellowship will be considered on proof of satisfactory progress.

The value of the Fellowship is R150 000 per annum and this amount includes any relocation costs. Modest funds (up to R25 000) are available for travel and research costs. The Fellowships are normally exempt from taxation and application for such exemption will be made on behalf of each success candidate. The Fellowship carries no fringe-benefits.

Successful candidates are expected to pursue a mutually agreed upon research programme with the appointed Principal Investigator (Supervisor) and Head of Department (HOD) in the host Department, within the Faculty. Formal progress reports, written by the Postdoctoral Fellow and endorsed by both the Principal Investigator and the HOD are due in June and December of each year of award.

- The completed PDOC01(M) Application Form including all required information and attachments. This document is available:

   o From the Graduate School in Humanities, Faculty of Humanities, UCT.

- The applicant’s full curriculum vitae and list of publications.
- Three reports from referees must be submitted in sealed envelopes.
- Certified copies of all academic transcripts and degree certificates. 

Completed applications should be submitted to The Deputy Dean of Research & Postgraduate Affairs, Faculty of Humanities, UCT, Private Bag X3, Rondebosch 7701, by no later than 30 September 2011.
