Amongst others, the programme included movements from masterpieces such as Guilmant’s Organ Concerto No 1, played expertly by Jaco Prinsloo, who is a French horn player in the orchestra. Bruch’s famous Concerto for Violin No 1 and Dvoøák‘s Romance were also played by two members of the first violin section, Carin Jansen van Vuuren and Mia Björkman respectively.
Jaco van Staden, the orchestra’s principal horn player played Vinter’s Hunter’s Moon. A Concerto for Two Clarinets by Krommer was played by Junnan Sun and Visser Liebenberg. The orchestra also performed something quite different in the form of Pryor’s Concerto for Trombone and Wind Band, played by principal trombonist, Konrad Boshoff.
Tshepo Tsotetsi, the orchestra’s resident saxophone player, made his orchestral debut with UPSO as a composer and soloist and played his own work, Flowers and Rainbows.
