The exhibition Child Labour, featuring the photographic work of the award winning and internationally renowned South African photographer, Dr Peter Magubane, will be hosted by the University of Johannesburg's Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA).
Dr Peter Magubane’s work has appeared in thirty international solo-exhibitions, thirty-three South African solo-exhibitions, and numerous group exhibitions. He has published seventeen books, with his work also appearing on the cover of National Geographic.
In 1990, former President Mandela approached Peter Magubane to be his personal photographer, covering the period from Mandela’s release from prison to his 1994 inauguration. Dr Magubane was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society in London, and has received Honorary Doctorates from seven universities.
Dr Magubane has spent five decades photographing child labourers. It has touched his life in a meaningful way, which comes through in his many striking and moving images. These images portray the shocking living conditions and extreme poverty these children live and work in.
