He played a role in the broader psychology community through his involvement in the Professional Board of Psychology. After his retirement in 2009, he continued to be involved in the postgraduate psychology training of students, with specific reference to adventure-based group therapy. In recent years he worked as a clinical psychologist at the Student Support Services of the University of Pretoria.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, 14 November 2012, at the Dutch Reformed Church South East Pretoria, Waterkloof.
