Background The MMMF was founded in 1981 to honor Margaret Craig McNamara for her commitment to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and children through education. Over the past 31 years, the MMMF has awarded over 200 educational grants totaling to women from more than 60 developing countries whose studies in the US, Canada and (since 2007) in South Africa aim to benefit women and children and whose future plans are to return to their countries or regions.
The MMMF is making grants, for approximately US$ 4000 each, available to female students from developing countries undertaking university study in South Africa, enrolled at the University of Pretoria.
