Not only has the Faculty succeeded to donate numerous books, there is also a knitting project, an initiative by social work students, to knit blankets for the reading rooms. The reading rooms of the schools will be revamped (carpets, painted walls, bright cushions and curtains, furniture) and we will also ensure that appropriate books will be available for foundation phase learners. Mr Chris Van Wyk, who is a prominent writer, will present a talk on the 30th of July about cultivating reading amongst young children, to support our drive. A sponsorship of R15 000 to the Faculty from Spoor & Fischer will be used for this project.
We are still in need of books suitable for foundation phase learners (5-7 years) since our focus will be on enhancing a reading culture amongst these children. Please place donated books in the designated container in the foyer of the Humanities Building.
A sincere word of thanks to everyone who has contributed to the project up to this point.
