In this presentation, we explore (a) the establishment of and the assumptions underlying the Apartheid Archive Project and (b) a selection of discursive/psychological themes emanating from the narratives collected by the Apartheid Archive Project, including, the collision of black and white bodies in raced space, illusions of transition within contexts of transit or transportation, and moments of resistance beyond the prevailing experiences of victimhood, perpetration, indifference and complicity in relation to racist acts and processes. The presentation employs a range of psychological writings, including those emanating from the pens of Bion, Winnicott and Freud in its examination of these themes as well as the Apartheid Archive Project’s raison d’être.
