Cawo Abdi is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Minnesota and a Research Fellow at the University of Pretoria. She spent the past year as a Fulbright Fellow in the Department of Sociology at UP. Professor Abdi’s research areas are migration, family and gender relations, Islam and development. She has published on these topics in various journals, including Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, Development Southern Africa and Refuge, and has contributed chapters to a number of books.
