The Russian invasion of Ukraine has become the most violent and dangerous conflict in Europe since World War II. It is pitting nuclear-armed Russian against the Ukraine and its Western allies which are supplying the Ukrainian side with an increasing number of sophisticated weapons. Apart from a potentially catastrophic nuclear escalation, the war has far-reaching international ramifications, for example a global food and energy crisis. This talk discusses the much-disputed origins of the war, and provides a European perspective on the Western reaction and its potential consequences.
