Students from the University of Pretoria’s Department of Pharmacology have once again demonstrated academic excellence on the national stage, achieving top honours at the 58th Annual South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (SASBCP) Conference. The event, held from 14 to 16 September 2025 at the Protea Hotel Umhlanga in Durban, brought together leading pharmacologists, researchers, and students from across the country to share cutting-edge research and innovations in the field.

These achievements underscore the Department of Pharmacology’s commitment to producing future leaders in biomedical science through rigorous training, mentorship, and collaborative research. The Department also recognised the invaluable support of supervisors, coordinators, and colleagues who played a key role in guiding the students’ research journeys.

“The success of our students is a proud moment for the Department and the Faculty of Health Sciences,” said Professor Natalie Schellack, Head of the Department of Pharmacology.

“It speaks to the quality of our academic programmes, the hard work of our students, and the strong culture of mentorship that drives excellence in our research community.”

“We congratulate all the award recipients for their outstanding performance and look forward to their continued contributions to advancing pharmacological research in South Africa and beyond”.
