As the world wages a daily struggle against Covid-19 and the devastation it has left and continues to leave in its wake, the University of Pretoria has similarly developed and been engaged in numerous projects locally and outside to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on our academic project, the communities we serve and society in general.

In this regard, the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Health Sciences is involved in close to 30 projects relating to the COVID-19 fight.

The disruption occasioned by the national lockdown has not spared the training programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences either and in fact, poses a threat to the faculty’s mission to qualify health professionals that will be essential in the fight against the pandemic next year and in the years to come.

To achieve this, we must, however, ensure that our students have the necessary support and means to complete the academic year.

It is with the afore-going as background that the Faculty of Health Sciences has established the Life Changers Fund, a student solidarity fund created to support students with the tools and subsistence required to complete their training in the current year but also to provide future support for the same purpose. The student solidarity fund will help ensure that our students do not go hungry and will help create the opportunity for bursaries for those who struggle with tuition fees.

This is thus an appeal to you to consider contributing to the Student Solidarity Fund to not only help qualify this year's cohort in the current academic year but also provide for the needs of future generations.
