The University of Pretoria Faculty of Health Sciences invites you to join clinical colleagues and members of the legal profession in a true-to-life presentation of a formal inquest hearing (“mock trial”) in respect of the death of a patient allegedly resulting from negligent or inappropriate management by a general practitioner.
The proceedings will be presided over by an experienced practitioner of the Pretoria Inquest Court, assisted by two expert medical assessors. After hearing the evidence of the complainant and the state pathologist, the medical practitioner will be called to testify, followed by medical experts to be led on behalf of both the state and the practitioner. The complainant and the medical practitioner will each be represented by senior legal counsel - both experienced advocates in the field of medical negligence.
The purpose of this activity is to provide healthcare practitioners with an opportunity to experience the formal and structured proceedings that may follow upon the death of patients, without the anxiety of being personally involved in such a stressful event.
The activity will be accredited for CPD Ethics points. Please note that CPD points will only be awarded for the full duration of the activity.
