Danilo von Ludwiger, in his fourth year of medical studies at the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Health Sciences, recently came back from a European beach volleyball tour for four weeks. Although he narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Von Ludwiger and his partner collected a bronze medal at the Continental Cup.

Exceptional talent and teamwork were displayed by Von Ludwiger and his partner who emerged third in Continental Cup thereby earning a bronze medal.

This remarkable performance not only won them a prestigious medal at the Continental Cup but also guaranteed South Africa’s place in the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship to be held in Adelaide, Australia. This occasion marks an important milestone as it is the first time South Africa has qualified for the World Championships since 2017.

Von Ludwiger has truly reaped fruits of his patience and perseverance, and he is looking forward to representing South Africa internationally next year. As he looked back at this journey, he thanked everyone who supported him during preparation for continental cup from deep within him.Volleyball career that will set him apart.

He would then engage himself with TUKS Indoor Volleyball USSA Championship which will take place in Limpopo before being part of SA university side to compete in CUCSA Games-2024 that will be held in Tshwane from July ninth to fourteenth. It is interesting to note that these two events are upcoming ones that will serve as occasions where we can display our talents and show how much committed we are to this sport.

It was through unwavering support and encouragement from UP’s faculty of health sciences that Von Ludewiger went through this journey. In addition to making prideful accomplishments for UP, these accomplishments have become sources of inspiration for other students and athletes alike who hope to perform better than they did.
