An expert lecture on the topic "Addressing the social determinants of health through transdisciplinarity" was delivered by Professor Solina Richter, who is the dean of the College of Nursing at the University of
Saskatchewan in Canada on 31 October 2022 at the University of Pretoria's Faculty of Health Sciences.
The lecture aimed to explore how the social determinants of health could be addressed in a transdisciplinary manner.
Prof Richter, an internationally acclaimed researcher, focused on the frontline practices that protect and promote the health of low socioeconomic populations. She reflected on the complexities and intersections of culture, gender, indigenization, and neoliberalism.
She recommended multiple options for research on social determinants of health nationally and internationally in a transdisciplinary context.
Professor Richter is an internationally trained scholar, nurse, midwife who has a wealth of experience in nursing education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has supervised numerous master's and doctoral students and mentored several international scholars and postdoctoral fellows. She was awarded the Faculty of Graduates Study's graduate supervisor award, which she values since it is unequivocally from the student body.
Professor Ramadimetja Mooa, who heads the Department of Nursing Science,, said the event was a huge success and thanked all the various departments that participated and helped in making the event a success.
