Prominent Academic Platform for Scientists ranks UP Professor third in South Africa

Director of the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Professor Michael Pepper, has ranked third in South Africa as well as three thousand one hundred fifty-fifth in the world ranking on prominent academic platform for scientists Research.com. These rankings were published in the 2022 Edition of Ranking of Top 1000 Scientists in the area of Biology and Biochemistry.

"This ranking is a reflection of the work of many students and collaborators and I am grateful for the visibility it brings to the Faculty and University” shared Prof Pepper.

In addition to being the Director of the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Professor Michael Pepper is also the Director of the South African Medical Research Council Extramural Unit for Stem Cell Research and Therapy, and a Research Professor in the Department of Immunology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria.  He is also professeur associé in the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.

The ranking is constructed using the H-index data gathered by Microsoft Academic and includes only prominent scientists with an H-index of at least 40 for scientific papers published in the field of Biology and Biochemistry.

Prof Pepper was also included in Apolitical’s 100 Most Influential Academics in Government. Apolitical’s list highlights work that’s influenced the policymaking process by providing insights into policy problems, contributing innovative ideas and solutions, or adding relevant and informative data.
