Palliative Care Symposium

Posted on September 15, 2021

Sungardens Hospice in collaboration with the University of Pretoria (Department of Family Medicine) will be hosting the first Palliative Care Symposium on 1 October 2021 at Lynnwood NG Kerk.

The one-day symposium aims to cover various topics related to palliative patient care.  The event is CPD accredited and experts will cover topics such as “Breaking bad news”, the ethical question on euthanasia, perspectives from Dieticians and Social workers in dealing with terminal and end of life patients as well as paediatric palliative care.

The platform will be used for the launch of another first for South Africa – a palliative care helpline.  The aim of the helpline is to provide support and information to physicians and other professionals working in palliative care, but also to be a link for patients and families who are in need of palliative care. The organizers plan to make this an annual event.

The symposium is to be held at the NG Kerk Lynnwood in Sussex Rd, Lynnwood on 01 October 2021. Registration starts at 08:00 and the attendance fee is R1000.00
