Pay It Forward

Dear Colleagues and Students

The past couple of months have propelled us to get out of our comfort zone and embrace the new normal. We have had to take action in unprecedented environments. Now more than ever we are reminded that we have a role to play in order to overcome the invisible enemy known to many as COVID-19. We all need to “Pay it forward”. Paying it forward means responding to kindness to oneself by being kind to someone else.

In order to leave a lasting legacy, the Faculty of Health Sciences has created the Life Changers fund to help our students in need. We can all make a difference in developing #LifeChangers who will go forth and change the world. It has been so heart-warming to witness people and organisations share their generosity with the Faculty.  Every act of kindness ensures that we leave a positive impact in the community that we serve and that no student is left behind.

Thank you to each and everyone for playing your part in ensuring that Teaching and Learning continue successfully. Thank you for continuing to be on the Frontline and continuing to produce research that shifts boundaries. Many of you have had to adjust to the “new normal” which is never easy but you have taken it upon yourselves to take action in your respective roles.

As you read through this edition of our quarterly newsletter I hope you will get inspired to play your part and pay it forward. As Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has”.

Remember to be kind to each other and yourselves.

Kind Regards,

Prof Tiaan de Jager
