UP Family Medicine Our Health is in our Hands

Posted on June 30, 2020

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria (UP) has developed a series of animated videos that aim to educate the public about COVID-19. Working in partnership with Gerhard Cruywagen of Greenhouse Cartoons, Professor Tessa Marcus of the Department of Family Medicine has created the UP COVID-19 Health is in Our Hands video series, which draws on the Faculty of Health Sciences’ wealth of educational, scientific and healthcare service expertise that extends to communities across the country. The video series is made possible through sponsorship from the University of Pretoria, AngloAmerican, the University of Leicester (UK) and generous private donations.

The videos are made by the University of Pretoria in five languages for people to freely use and share. Each video gives scientific and practical information. They are there to help everyone know how to act to stop the spread of the coronavirus. They also show people what to do if they or others get COVID-19. They can be used to empower people to take charge of their own health and the health of the people around them.

Let’s fight the coronavirus together – anyone is welcome to share these videos on any respective platform. The videos are in English, Zulu, Sepedi, Afrikaans and Xhosa.

Videos are updated bi-monthly to ensure that the content is relevant and responds to the current local climate. All videos can be accessed on the YouTube channel called UP Family Medicine Our Health is in Our Hands.
