Prof Christa Janse van Rensburg elected as President of SASMA

Head of Division of Sports Medicine, Prof Christa Janse van Rensburg has been appointed as the new President of the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA). She is the third woman to hold this position since SASMA’s inception in 1983.

SASMA is dedicated to the motivation, responses, adaptation and health of people involved in sport and exercise. SASMA promotes sport science and sport medicine to the benefit of the South African community. SASMA arranges local, regional and biennial international meetings for medical professionals, allied health professionals (physiotherapists, biokineticists, sports nutritionists, and sports psychologists), sports scientists and sports educators. SASMA also publishes a journal to encourage research in the various fields of sports medicine.

During her tenure as President of SASMA, Prof Christa Janse van Rensburg aims to increase membership, improve the production of quality educational resources and access to education for sport professionals including those from smaller regions.
