The Department of Oral Pathology and Oral Biology of the School of Dentistry has active collaborative research projects with their Oral Pathology Department, located in Piracicaba. To date, three PhD students have spent several months at the University of Pretoria as part of their exchange programme.

Recently, the Department of Oral Pathology at UNICAMP celebrated 20- years of postgraduate education by organising a three-day symposium. Prof Willie van Heerden, Head of the Oral Pathology and Oral Biology Department at UP, was one of four international speakers asked to present in their scientific programme. His lecture entitled “Diagnostic pitfalls in the head and neck” was well received by the more than 150 delegates. The visit also strengthened ties between the two departments and several new collaborative projects were discussed. The department will shortly receive another PhD student for a six-month period.
