Dr Menisha Moos, senior lecturer in the Department of Business Management, has obtained a new grant from the Research Development Programme (RDP) for a research project titled ‘Deconstructing relationships between policy awareness evaluation and the skills needed by small businesses’.

Dr Moos states that, “the aim of the project is to investigate the directional relationships between small business owners' awareness of the small business policy in terms of its objectives, outputs and outcomes; and their perceptions of the importance of skills needed.”

The research findings will assist policy makers in designing effective policies that will address the needs of the beneficiaries, which will lead to more sustainable small businesses, job creation and economic growth.

“The topic per se will add immense value to the science of entrepreneurship, as well as the small business and entrepreneurship enabling environment in South Africa, of which policy makers form the key stakeholder,” explains Dr Moos. The envisaged outcomes of the research project, which will be conducted in collaboration with Prof Melodi Botha, include writing research articles, submitting these to small business and entrepreneurship journals for publication, and presenting the research results at conferences.
