Message from the Dean

Welcome from the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences

If you are planning to pursue a career in economics, finance or management, I encourage you to enrol as a student in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS). We house eight departments and a school within the Faculty, giving you ample choice.

Our academic and professional staff are committed to delivering excellent service and support to our students. We value each student as an individual and will offer guidance and support so you can excel and realise your dreams. We strive to graduate subject experts and work-ready dynamic individuals who can make meaningly contributions anywhere in the world.
We are proud of the fact that our Faculty performs excellently on a range of annual international university ranking lists, affirming that our students have access to a world-class education. Many of our wide-ranging programmes are accredited by national and international professional bodies. The value of a qualification from the Faculty is also well-recognised by industry and government, as many of our graduates are sought after by employers in the private and public sectors in South Africa, as well as abroad.

The Faculty of EMS is the first faculty of its kind in South Africa and Africa to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business      (AACSB). Click here to know more about how this benefits you as an EMS student!

While the Faculty places a strong emphasis on academic excellence, our students will have sufficient time available to utilise the excellent facilities of the University and to partake in a vibrant student life. Graduates from the Faculty leave here as well-rounded, creative and innovative thinkers and continuous learners who can compete internationally and are conscious of their social responsibility. They are the future private and public sector professionals and leaders.
Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are accessible to applicants who meet the necessary entrance requirements. The annual closing date for undergraduate applications is 30 June, although we encourage students to apply much earlier. Unlock your potential by becoming an EMS student!
We look forward to welcoming you on the UP Campus.
