On 1 January 2002 history was made when the first independent Department of Financial Management at a South African university was formed in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. The Department aims to deliver quality students to auditing firms, high profile financial institutions and other key players in the South African economy.
| The Department of Financial Management is in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS), which is the first faculty of its kind in Africa to be awarded the prestigious international business education accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The Faculty of EMS is now part of an elite group of 6% of institutions worldwide accredited by the AACSB. Established in 1916, the AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools, and the largest business education network connecting learners, educators and businesses worldwide.
