Departmental Research Committee

The Departmental Research Committee, chaired by Professor Beth le Roux, plays a central role in coordinating and overseeing postgraduate research within the Department of Information Science. The Committee comprises all active research supervisors in the department and meets monthly to ensure the smooth and efficient management of postgraduate matters.

The Committee’s responsibilities include evaluating Master’s and Doctoral applicationsassigning supervisorsreviewing research proposals and instruments for submission to the Faculty Ethics Committee, monitoring student progress, and finalising examination processes.

A distinctive feature of this committee is its role in streamlining postgraduate administration. All postgraduate applications and research-related matters are first reviewed by the Committee before being processed at the Faculty and administrative levels. This structure ensures that each application receives careful academic consideration, promotes consistent supervision standards, and supports a strong culture of research integrity within the department.

Through its regular meetings and collaborative approach, the Committee contributes to a supportive and transparent research environment, fostering high-quality scholarship and timely progression for all postgraduate students.
