“Sister” – noun [sis-ter]
A person who is there when you need her; someone who will catch you when you fall; a shoulder to cry on; someone to laugh with; most importantly, a sister is always a friend.
During the week of 22 to 27 February, Magrietjie celebrated our very first “sister week”. During this week the ladies had the opportunity to “zoep” a fellow Magrietjie lady. This meant that the Magrietjie ladies who wanted to participate, had to buy each other’s love by showering one another with creative, fun loving, and totally out there gifts.
The ladies could either “zoep” someone older who would then hopefully become their ‘Big sis’ or even someone younger who would then become their ‘Lil sis’. What an amazing experience this has been! The anticipation of not knowing whether someone will want to “zoep” you, the excitement when you get “zoeped” back by a potential sis and the joy you felt doing something nice for someone else, whether it was writing a short note or giving a small gift, all formed part of the memories made during “zoep” week.
On Thursday, the 10th of March, the sisters were announced and everyone was very happy with their new ‘Big sis’ or ‘Lil sis’. Knowing you have someone that will look out for you, someone you can talk to and someone that will always be there for you, really made this event worthwhile and very special.
This initiative truly set the foundation for Magrietjie ladies to unite and bond on a whole new level. May we bond in love and pride as time goes by, and may we embrace every opportunity to get to know our sisters and form part of each other’s lives.
