Professor Roelf Visser, beloved Director of Residences passed away on the 31st of January 2014. His journey at Tukkies started as a student who studied Quantity Surveying whilst staying in Taaibos. He prioritised academics, and after he completed his PhD he became a lecturer at the University of Pretoria. His involvement at the University as well as with students in general became even more evident after he was appointed Taaibos’s house father from 1994 until 1997. After Taaibos Magrietjie was privileged enough to also have Prof Roelf as their house father (1998-2003) After this he was appointed to the position of Director of Residence Affairs. In this position his passion for students and student life truly came to life where he figuratively and literally improved the lives of students. He initiated leadership development programmes for students and he always had the best interest at heart for the well-being of every Residence student. Building Projects that took place under his leadership include the erection of TuksVillage, residence at Onderstepoort, the new dining hall on LC and the restoration programme for residences.
The passing away of Prof Roelf left a gap in TuksRes management…His commitment, pride and dedication laid the cornerstone for a strong foundation on which we can successfully build. Thank you Prof Roelf for everything you did for residences and thank you that you always had the best interest for residing students at heart!
