Steven Chepkonga - QS student and cricket star

Posted on September 21, 2022

Steven Chepkonga is not just building his career as a young construction professional but also as a young cricket star.  Steven is currently studying BSc Quantity Surveying (Hons) at the Department of Construction Economics.  He is part of the 2022 TUKS cricket team who will be playing in the cricket Varsity Cup, taking place between 3 - 6 October.  In 2019, TUKS won this tournament and took part in the Red Bull Campus World Finals in Dubai that same year.  Steven says that the 2022 squad is strong and they are confident that they can defend the title as Varsity Cup champions.

Steven started playing cricket at the age of seven and played first team in high school.   He said:  “When I arrived at TUKS I decided that I’ll play the sport for fun.  However, after a session of bowling on my own in the nets after an exam, the 1st team assistant coach, Curtly Diesel, spotted me and invited me to train with the squad. Next thing I knew I was in the team in Potchefstroom winning the Varsity Cup and then on a plane to Dubai for the Red Bull World Finals”.

Steven has been fortunate to make his professional debut for the Titans in 2022 and hopes to secure a professional cricket contract.  If this is not the case, he is happy to focus all his time and energy building his career as a quantity surveyor.
