Swimming champ, Andrew Ross

Posted on December 13, 2021

Andrew Ross, the young swimming sensation, is currently studying towards his degree in Construction Management at the Department of Construction Economics.  His love for construction came from his dad who is a construction manager but swimming is Andrew’s passion in life.   “I think the love for swimming came from my sister who is also a South African swimmer and has represented team South Africa at multiple international events” says Andrew.

Andrew was chosen to represent South Africa at the 2021 African Championships.  He participated in the 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 4 x 200m freestyle relay, 4 x 100m freestyle relay and 4 x 100m mixed freestyle relay.  Andrew had to compete against world class competitors and took the silver medal in the 200m freestyle.  He just missed the world student qualification time by 0.3 of a second.

Andrew’s dream is to one day represent South Africa at the Olympic Games and ultimately just to see the world by competing in international swimming events. Andrew was chosen for the SA team to compete at the world short course championships in Abu Dhabi from 16-21 December 2021.  The Department of Construction Economics is proud to share in the success story of this swimming champ!
