Digitalisation of Real Estate Summit

Posted on September 06, 2021

The 3rd annual Digitalisation of Real Estate virtual summit 2021 was hosted by Real Estate Investor Magazine (REI) on 19 August 2021.  This virtual summit created a place to learn and share valuable knowledge, discover the latest “PropTech” solutions and trends, and to keep abreast of best practice.  Six virtual content zones were created that allowed delegates to watch pre-recorded content when visiting the different zones. The zones included content along the lines of “Internet of Things”, “Digital Innovations”, Marketplaces” and many more.  Construction Economics students from the University of Pretoria had the privilege to share their pre-recorded content at this prestigious summit.

The students participated in a competition where they had to produce videos based on specific real estate topics provided by their lecturer Ms Laetita Cook.  The best videos were selected and sent to Neale Petersen and his team from REI who selected 4 videos for inclusion in the Digitalisation of Real Estate Summit 2021.

The following students’ videos were selected for the summit:

  • Kopano Mokoena, Selokoane Selatile & Lesego Zazo (Topic:  How digitization aides in the development of smart cities)
  • Mafhungo Musefuwa, Melven Naicker, Permanent Chabalala, Isaac Nkama & Frandah Lourens (Topic:  Sustainability in the Built Environment through semigration)
  • Gerhard Malherbe, Jaco Viljoen & Charl Geyser (Topic:  Inclusionary housing – The numbers)
  • Misbaah Khan Osman, Yamkela Makalima, Shayan Nathoo & Ian David Naidoo (Topic:  The use of robotics in 3D printing of sustainability in the construction industry)

The Department of Construction Economics is extremely proud of the skills and efforts of our students. They exceeded expectations and deserve all credit for doing so.
