UP to co-host 2020 World Engineering Education Forum & Global Engineering Deans Council Conference in Cape Town

Posted on April 21, 2020

Under the auspices of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), the University of Pretoria (UP), in conjunction with the South African Society for Engineering Education (SASEE) and the South African Engineering Deans’ Forum, is set to co-host the 2020 World Engineering Education Forum and the Global Engineering Deans Council (WEEF&GEDC) from 16 to 20 November 2020 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

Each year, the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) holds the World Engineering Education Forum in different locations around the world. On alternate years the conference is jointly convened with the Global Engineering Deans Council. This is the largest international gathering of engineering education leaders and includes participation from a large number of stakeholders – engineering educators, leaders, students, entrepreneurs, industry, governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations, among others – who share and build fruitful and long-term collaborations during the event.

“WEEF/GEDC provides a strong platform for interaction and consultation with international delegates for the sharing of interests and expertise, and we look forward to welcoming delegates and providing opportunities for new partners, especially given the current global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Professor Sunil Maharaj, General Conference Chair and Dean of the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (EBIT). “This pandemic has radically led to a new world order being developed which governs how we live, work, educate and socialise, now and in the future. Engineers and engineering education play a pivotal role in this, and the thought leadership and engagement on this at the Conference would be a strategic and great opportunity for all attendees.”
