This award recognises authors who have presented papers at the SOMP Annual General Meeting, held in Bochum, Germany, in July 2019, for their contributions to the body of knowledge in mining engineering. The award considers the technical quality of the paper and the quality of presentation.

The paper, presented by Prof Webber-Youngman and Dr Uys, was titled “A 4.0D^TM Leadership Model for mining and related industries in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”. This model was developed by Dr Uys for use in the Department’s Mining Engineering Leadership Academy.

Dr Serkan Saydam, Deputy Secretary-General of SOMP, extended his congratulations to the two recipients, who will receive the award at the 2020 SOMP Annual General Meeting, to be held in Medellin, Colombia, in July 2020.
