The University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology in collaboration with the South African Academy of Engineering (SAAE), presented its annual Hendrik van der Bijl Memorial Lecture on 8 September 2016. This event is presented to commemorate the great contribution that Dr Van der Bijl, who was Chancellor from 1934 to 1948 has made to the industrial and scientific development of South Africa.

Mr Koos Bekker, Non-executive Chairman of Naspers was the Guest Speaker at this year’s Lecture. He highlighted in his speech invaluable insight on how engineering plays a role in the industry under his topic "Ten Mistakes I made"
